No real winners
Blackburn Rovers were the only team to emerge from the weekend and midweek fixtures with 6 points having picked up 2-1 wins at home to Wigan and away to Newcastle who had shocked Arsenal 1-0 at the Emirates. The Gunners picked up the pieces with a 2-0 victory thanks to first and last minute goals by Chamakh at Wolves who had fallen to another two-goal hero Park Ji Sung in their 2-1 loss at Manchester United. Chelsea lost 2-0 at Liverpool with Fernando Torres netting a double and adding another on Wednesday as the Reds could only manage a 1-1 draw at Wigan while Chelsea returned to the Bridge to beat Fulham 1-0 with an Essien goal before his late dismissal. Asamoah Gyan was also among the goals, scoring twice for Sunderland in their 2-0 home win against Stoke before earning a 1-1 draw for the Black Cats at Tottenham who had earlier lost 4-2 at Bolton. West Ham drew 2-2 at Birmingham and at home to West Brom, while Everton earned the same result at Blackpool before drawing 1-1 at home to Bolton. Aston Villa drew 1-1 at Fulham before returning home to defeat Blackpool 3-2, and there was a 3-2 win for Stoke at home to Birmingham. Manchester City won 2-0 at West Bromwich Albion before playing out a goalless draw at home to their local rivals United.
