Reds arrow to the top


After 20 weeks Liverpool are the front runners ahead of Manchester City who were top of the table until a Christmas blip.
Week 11 - Liverpool earned a 1-1 draw at Arsenal while Raheem Sterling claimed a brace as Southampton were slaughtered 6-1 at Manchester City and Alvaro Morata netted twice in Chelsea’s 3-1 win at home to Crystal Palace. Manchester United came from behind to score their 2-1 winner in stoppage time at Bournemouth while Tottenham took a 3-goal lead against the run of play at Wolves who reduced the deficit with 2 spot kicks and Burnley bounced back twice but lost 4-2 at West Ham for whom Filipe Anderson scored a double. Richarlison scored twice as Everton beat Brighton 3-1 at Goodison Park while a single goal gave Newcastle 3 points at home to Watford and in their first match since the loss of their owner, an emotionally charged Leicester City were 1-0 winners at Cardiff. On Monday evening Huddersfield Town picked up their first win of the season with a 1-0 home win over fellow strugglers Fulham.     
Week 12 – Liverpool moved to the top of the table with 2 goals at home to Fulham but a few hours later Manchester United were outclassed 3-1 at Manchester City who retained top spot while Chelsea were held to a goalless draw at home to Everton and Arsenal could only draw 1-1 with Wolves with a late goal at the Emirates. A Salomon Rondon double gave Newcastle a 2-1 home win over Bournemouth while 10-man Brighton fell 2-1 to a last-minute goal at Cardiff and there were 1-1 draws for Watford at Southampton and West Ham at Huddersfield Town. One goal was enough to give Tottenham all 3 points at Crystal Palace and in their first home match since the death of their owner, Leicester City drew 0-0 with Burnley.     
Week 13 – Chelsea’s unbeaten run came to an end at Wembley where they were defeated 3-1 by Tottenham who moved above them in the league while Manchester City hammered West Ham 4-0 with a double from Leroy Sane at the London Stadium and ten-man Liverpool put 3 past their hosts Watford without reply. Crystal Palace held Manchester United to a goalless draw at Old Trafford while Arsenal were 2-1 winners at Bournemouth and Everton saw off Cardiff with one goal at Goodison Park. In Claudio Ranieri’s first match in charge of Fulham, Aleksandar Mitrovic netted a brace as they overcame their visitors from Southampton 3-2 for whom Stuart Armstrong netted twice while ten-man Leicester came from behind to draw 1-1 at Brighton and Aaron Mooy scored both goals for Huddersfield who move away from the bottom of the table with a win at Wolves. On Monday evening Newcastle won 2-1 at Burnley.
Week 14 – Arsenal went into the break 2-1 down but took Tottenham apart in the 2nd half to win 4-2 at the Emirates with the visitors finishing a man short while Chelsea put 2 past Fulham at Stamford Bridge and in the Merseyside derby at Anfield a freak goal late into stoppage time gave Liverpool all 3 points against Everton. Manchester United came from 2 down to draw 2-2 at Southampton while Bournemouth lost 3-1 at Manchester City and Brighton came back from an early setback to win 2-1 at 10-man Huddersfield town. Crystal Palace dominated and defeated Burnley 2-0 at Selhurst Park while Watford lost 2-0 and suffered a late dismissal at Leicester. Javier Hernandez scored twice as West Ham were 3-0 winners at Newcastle and on Friday night Cardiff City turned the match around in the 2nd half to win 2-1 at home[M1]  to Wolves.
Week 15 – In midweek matches Chelsea took the lead but lost 2-1 at Wolves while Manchester United twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at home to Arsenal and Tottenham were 3-1 winners against their visitors from Southampton who were being watched by newly appointed manager Ralph Hasenhuttl. Burnley took the lead in front of their home crowd but lost 3-1 to Liverpool while ten-man Brighton enjoyed the same scoreline at home to Crystal Palace and a double from Lucas Perez helped West Ham to a 3-1 home win over Cardiff City. There were 2-1 wins for league leaders Manchester City at Watford and for Bournemouth at home to Huddersfield Town while there were 1-1 draws for Newcastle at Everton and for Leicester City at Fulham.   
Week 16 – Liverpool moved to the top of the table as the only unbeaten team in the Premier League after a Mo Salah hat-trick helped them to a 4-0 victory at Bournemouth while Manchester City were beaten 2-0 at Chelsea. Tottenham were 2-0 winners at Leicester City and Arsenal kept up the chase with a narrow 1-0 win at home to Huddersfield Town while ten-man Fulham lost 4-1 at Manchester United. There were 1-0 home wins for Burnley over Brighton and for Cardiff over Southampton while West Ham United were 3-2 winners at home to Crystal Palace. On Sunday Wolverhampton Wanderers scored in stoppage time to win 2-1 at 10-man Newcastle and on Monday evening Everton missed a penalty but salvaged a 2-2 draw with a goal deep into stoppage time at home to Watford.
Week 17 – Xherdan Shaqiri scored twice at Anfield as Liverpool beat Manchester United 3-1 to remain at the top of the table while Manchester City enjoyed the same result at home to Everton with a brace from Gabriel Jesus and Tottenham broke the deadlock in stoppage time to bag all 3 points against Burnley at Wembley. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Danny Ings scored twice each for their respective teams as Arsenal lost 3-2 at Southampton while Chelsea were 2-1 winners at Brighton and Wolves defeated Bournemouth 2-0 at Molineux. Cardiff City pulled 2 goals back but lost 3-2 at Watford and Fulham lost 2-0 at home to West Ham while there were 1-0 wins for Crystal Palace at home to Leicester and Newcastle away to Huddersfield Town.   
Week 18 – Crystal Palace came from a goal down to shock campions Manchester City 3-2 at the Etihad and Chelsea lost 1-0 at home to Leicester while on Friday evening Liverpool guaranteed top spot at Christmas with a 2-0 victory at Wolves. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice as Arsenal got the better of Burnley 3-1 at the Emirates while Manchester United romped to a 5-1 win at Cardiff with Jesse Lingard netting twice in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first match in charge of the Red Devils and Watford were 2-0 winners at West Ham. Ten-man Brighton lost 2-0 to a David Brooks brace in Bournemouth while Southampton won 3-1 at Huddersfield Town and Fulham played a goalless match at Newcastle. In the sole match on Sunday Everton opened the scoring but were taken apart 6-2 with Heung-min Son and Harry Kane scoring 2 apiece for Tottenham at Goodison Park.  
Week 19 – On Boxing Day Manchester City suffered their second defeat in less than a week when they fell 2-1 at Leicester, ending the match with 10 players, and were overtaken into 2nd place by Tottenham who battered Bournemouth 5-0 at Wembley with another double from Heung-min Son while Liverpool extended their lead at the top after smashing Newcastle 4-0 at Anfield. Eden Hazard scored both goals in Chelsea’s 2-1 win at Watford while Arsenal drew 1-1 at Brighton and Everton bounced back from their weekend hammering to bury Burnley 5-1 at Turf Moor with a double from Lucas Digne. Paul Pogba netted twice in Manchester United’s 3-1 home win over Huddersfield Town while Wolves drew 1-1 at Fulham and Crystal Palace fired blanks at home to Cardiff. On the following evening, West Ham United came from behind to win 2-1 at Southampton with a double from Felipe Anderson.   
Week 20 – Liverpool march on at the top of the Premier League table having humiliated Arsenal 5-1 at Anfield with a hat-trick from Roberto Firmino while Tottenham took the lead at Wembley but were devoured 3-1 by Wolves and Manchester City got back to winning ways 3-1 at Southampton who ended the match a man short. Paul Pogba claimed another brace as Manchester United, who ended the match with 10 men, overpowered Bournemouth 4-1 at Old Trafford while a single goal gave Chelsea a win at Crystal Palace and Newcastle drew 1-1 at Watford. Cardiff City broke the deadlock to win at Leicester and Fulham did the same at home to Huddersfield while there was also a 1-0 win for Brighton at home to Everton and West Ham lost 2-0 at Burnley.
